Thanks to everyone who participated in the Earth Day Rahway River Cleanup. I just received and update from the coordinators and wanted to share what we recovered.
As Margaret Mead so eloquently said in relation to Earth Day… “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world.” Well we did make a difference…this was by far our largest cleanup and the most we garbage we have ever removed. On the volume side alone we collected 240 large bags of debris and garbage, and a variety of other different debris and junk. A sampling of what was removed includes:

We also had some Odd Items that folks identified they found including: Snow Shovel, Red Wagon, Drain pipe, large piece of carpet, Golf Bag, Golf Club, Hockey Helmet, Toy Truck, Gas Can, Watering Can, Toy Parachute, Margarita Glass, Frisbee, Lighter, Plastic Easter Egg, Shoe, Sock, Coconut, Fishing Pole, Glasses Frame, Soccer Ball, Football, Hubcap, Bike Tire, Barney Toothbrush, vacuum cleaner hose, planter, sweater, flip-flop, light bulb, pencil case, inflatable bed, medicine container, cast iron chair, wash basin, bowling ball, sneaker, golf ball, tennis ball, wine glass, hockey puck, car mirror, car headlight, truck reflector, wallet, backpack, small blow-up raft, cell phone, gardening tool, CD, tape, PVC tubing, spray can…we also found a whole lot of credit cards/ID’s that were turned over to the county police.
