A Word about the Weather

This month I’ve taken some pointers from Baloo’s Bugle and the official monthly Program Helps and we’ve been following the theme of weather. Our first meeting of the month we opened with weather themed gathering activities… Once everyone was together we reviewed the theme of the month, Weather – and explained the requirements for the weather belt loop. Everyone was given a handout with the requirements for the belt loop. We told the boys to bring back their completed Water Cycle posters to the next meeting and we would display them around the room. After that we moved onto making Rain Tubes.

At our second meeting this month we’re going to continue the weather theme and be making kites as a group and the promised finale for next week’s meeting is an indoor tornado!

Rank Advancement Checklists

Filed under: Awards and Achievements — admin at 10:23 am on Sunday, March 4, 2007

This year we have been pretty informal with our progress towards rank advancements. Truthfully we’re probably behind where we should be for all three ranks right now… and any that we’re not behind on still aren’t officially recorded. Normally the “Scout year” closely follows a school year calendar so we’re about 3/4 through the calendar so far… To get ourselves organized as a group, and to better guide the remainder of the year’s activities, I would ask that everyone complete with their son the Advancement Requirement Checklist for their particular rank – Tiger, Wolf or Bear. I will be distributing these at the meeting on Monday the 5th (Rec. Ctr, 7pm) or you can download them now (forms below). The checklists are nothing more than a outline of the requirements direct from the manual – only without the verbiage in between – probably easiest to follow along with the handbook side by side. Please mark down all the requirements that you son has completed so far and return a copy to me by the following meeting (Thursday the 15th; St. Theresa’s 7pm). If you can get them to me before Thursday I can distribute any beads towards advancement at Thursday’s meeting. I appreciate everyone’s participation. Any questions of course don’t hesitate to contact me.
