Religious Emblem Awards 2009-2010

Filed under: Awards and Achievements,Events — admin at 2:50 pm on Thursday, October 8, 2009
There are two special religious emblems
available to Cub Scouts. These awards are
presented to Cub Scouts by the archbishop
on Scout Sunday at the cathedral in
Newark.
The Light of Christ emblem program for
Tiger and Wolf Scouts is designed to help
the Cub Scout develop a personal
relationship with Jesus. With the parents’
active assistance and participation in this
program, it is hoped that the Cub will come
to see Jesus as a real person and his friend.
The Parvuli Dei emblem program for Bear
and Webelos Scouts is designed to help
young boys explore a wide range of
activities in order to discover the presence
of God in their daily lives as members of
their families and parishes, and also to
develop a good, positive self-image through
the contributions they can make to the
group or community.
To participate in the program the Cub Scout will work with his parents in an activity book
over the course of several weeks, totaling approximately six hours. When the Cub has
completed the activity book, he and other Cubs in the program will meet in late November
or early December with a parish priest to review the material. After the priest signs the
book, showing that the Cub completed the work, the approval form is sent to the
Archdiocese of Newark for final approval by December 16, 2009. The religious emblem will
then be awarded to the Cub Scout on Scout Sunday, February 7, 2010, at a special service
at the cathedral in Newark.
If your Cub Scout is interested in the program, please contact Eileen Musser at
908-688-8747 or eileen@musser.com by October 16 to order a booklet. Booklets can
then be picked up at the October 22, 2009 Cub Scout meeting.
